Tour of the Rec Centre

The tour of the Rec Centre was a huge success.  To clarify, the Rec Centre is now called the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre.

On Sunday Sept 29th and October 6th, the tour of the Rec Centre was open to the public.  Hundreds of people came each of those Sundays.  The tours ran about 15 to 20 minutes and there was so much interest, they had to overlap.

There was so much to learn about!

the water features

First, we saw the lazy river, splash pad, 2 diving boards, 8 lane swimming pool, waterslide and 40 person hot tub.  Then we learned that the wave pool will actually have 2 different styles of waves!  We learned that all of the water features are zero entry which means people with mobility issues and small children will have no effort getting in and out.

Next, we discovered that there are at least 2 board rooms that can be rented for fun by teams or groups or can be rented for meetings and events.

the ice features

After all that, we moved over to the twin pads.  These are 2 NHL sized ice surfaces capable of year round ice.  They are flooded with natural light.

There were many windows that looked out over the Rotary Park trail system that has been extended throughout The Yard.  How nice to be in the lazy river and float by trees!

Evan Bray from CKOM had a tour of the Rec Centre.  Afterwards, he said there isn’t a kid in our province who won’t want to play in it.  Additionally, he said there isn’t a parent in Saskatchewan who won’t want their kid to play in  it!

Here is the City of Prince Albert web page that talks about the key features of the newly named Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre in detail:  Features – City of Prince Albert (citypa.ca)

This state of the art Aquatic & Arenas Rec Centre will help our city attract and retain badly needed workforce talent, especially for our massive hospital expansion and refurbishment.  It’ll help our young people and families stay busy, happy, and healthy.  It’ll be a major attraction for visitors and tourism inside our province.  We are so grateful to Lake Country Co-op for their historic legacy donation to the city of $400,000 a year for 25 years!

The state of the art Rec Centre – now called the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre – is one of the reasons that Prince Albert is Saskatchewan’s City to Watch!
