Update on the Event Centre

We’re always being asked for an update on the Event Centre.

Firstly, it is now being called the Convention & Cultural Event Centre.  It’s good that it’s many purposes are now being recognized.  This 4500 seat Convention & Cultural Event Centre will play host to national and international arts and sports competition.  Similarly, it will host entertainment events as well as tradeshows, conventions, and concerts.

Secondly, there was another big update in the past few weeks.  A major financial commitment has come from the Woodland Cree.  Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, Montreal Lake Cree Nation, and Lac LaRonge Indian Band have each promised to co-invest in the Event Centre, with the City, as long as the City gets Federal funding.

The three Indigenous Bands have signed an MOU – Memorandum Of Understanding with the City of Prince Albert.  The third update is that each of them will potentially commit 15 million dollars each.  All told, this would be a 45 million dollar injection.

Above all, this MOU is historic.  It is a perfect example of economic reconciliation.  And, this joint economic partnership is the first of its kind in all of Canada.

In conclusion, here are the three updates on the Convention and Cultural event Centre.  If the Feds give the City of Prince Albert funding for this unbelievable tourism facility, the Woodland Cree will kick in as well!  Therefore, a bright future vastly increased visitor commerce for our city, our entire business community, and all of the people employed therein.
