What Else Will Go in The Yard?

People ask all the time, “What else will go in The Yard?”  They see activity when they drive by and the District looks different almost every day.

You can see actual building happening on a few of the parcels.  It’s fun to compare what you see today to what things looked like just a year ago.

hotels

The Holiday Inn Express has been open for over six months.  It has a pool on the West side of the hotel towards the highway. This is what it looked like a year ago.

A second hotel will soon break ground.  This second hotel will move an existing liquor store into The Yard and convert their old liquor store location into office space.  You can see their signs when you go around the traffic circle in The Yard.

The city owned Aquatic & Arenas Rec Centre is almost done!  The pools are closest to Marquis and the twin NHL sized ice surfaces are furthest away. Here’s what it looked like a year ago.  When you drive by today, you can see it towering above its paved parking lot.  It’s on schedule to open early 2025.

The local Malenfant family invested in their own community by building a 6 bay block.  It is already finished and has one business already operating out of it.  Another delicious new food service will open very, very soon.  You can see that they already have their signs up when you drive by! The Malenfants have worked very hard on that beautiful brick faced building. This is what it looked like just a year ago.

CONCRETE & STONE.  Shrubs come later.

People are getting used to Prince Albert’s first traffic circle!  There are curbs, sidewalks and boulevards throughout the north part of the District now.  All of this infrastructure along with the paved streets and rock features were included in the land purchase price and are at the developers’ own cost.  Soon, greenery and shrubs will get added.  You don’t do that until the majority of construction is done.  The existing rocks help keep construction dust down where work is being done.  The greenery is delicate and is always the last thing to get put in.  This picture was taken a year ago:

what else will go in the yard

Another answer to what else will go in The Yard can best be seen from the highways, not Marquis Road.  You can see a metal structure going up and two other buildings getting framed.  All 3 of these will be food services to support the young people and families going in and out of the Rec Centre (and someday, the Event Centre, when our city gets funding from the Feds).  You’ll be able to get a coffee, grab a burger and some fries or sit with friends over drinks on the rooftop patio!

What else will go in The Yard?  Lots!  A grocery store, a car dealership, office buildings, stores and shopping, an urban RV park, and even more.  There is so much more to come!

Even where there isn’t activity on a parcel, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes as the different business owners make their preparations before they build.

How wonderful for PA to have this new, huge commercial tax base that will flow millions of new dollars into the city’s revenues.

And, we’ll have new entertainment and leisure options to keep our young people and families busy and happy and healthy.
