Year End Review

It’s time to do a year end review. Things are quiet in Prince Albert’s The Yard District.  Building has slowed for the winter but 2023 wasn’t a slow year!  The Yard saw a lot of activity.

COMMUNICATING IN COMMUNITY

To start off our year end review, let’s talk about communication.  Early in 2023, we got to work on creating some social media so people in community could keep up to date.  We also did a radio campaign on all 3 of PA’s stations.  New signs went up on Marquis Road and on the highway to direct people to Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram and this website.  We wanted everyone in our city to be able to keep up to date.

AQUATIC & ARENAS RECREATION CENTRE

Building continued on the city owned Aquatic & Arenas Rec Centre and it grew so quickly.  People got really excited about the competitive lane swimming, lazy river, water slide, hot tub, wave pool and 2 NHL sized year round ice surfaces.

HOTEL

Building started on PA’s largest hotel, the Holiday Inn Express in The Yard.  Gary Brar kept everything on track and his hotel opened late 2023 on time and as promised.

4 BAY BUILDING

Building started on a 4 bay mall close to the city Rec Centre.  2 of those bays were already spoken for in early 2023.

STREETS AND SIDEWALKS

A big portion of The Yard got paving, sidewalks, street signs and street lights.  PA’s first traffic circle was built.

CONFIRMED

Prince Albert learned that a grocery store and another hotel are confirmed for The Yard.  We also learned that a gas station with car wash and convenience store will be there as well as with two car dealerships.

BADLY NEEDED EVENT CENTRE

Our year end review includes the answer to a question that we got asked all year long.  “Will Prince Albert be getting a new events centre?”  Our answer is “hopefully”.  The Event centre would put PA in a positive light.  It would give the province and our country something positive to say about PA.  It would create needed national and international tourism to help our city generate needed additional new revenues.  Then the city could afford to do things like increase the police budget.

COMMUNITY BBQ AND BUS TOUR

Finally, the Community BBQ and bus tour was a real highlight.

Rusty was the tour guide for 6 completely full tours into The Yard.  Everyone in PA was welcome and hundreds of people turned out.  Comedian Kelly Taylor along with The Project kept people entertained while they ate hot dogs and hamburgers and waited for a chance to tour The Yard.

2023 was a very  busy year for The Yard.

2024 will be even busier.  A lot to look forward to after this year end review!
