Happy New Year

Happy new year! ’23 is out the door and now it’s time for ’24.  2024 will be a happy new year both in The Yard and for all of Prince Albert and North!

What construction might begin in 2024? Let’s start South and work our way North.

South entrance

A new car dealership will be situated at the most Southern entrance to The Yard.  It’ll face the highway on a small bluff as vehicles enter the city.  Just North of it will be the Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority.  They will be adding new services and need more space.  North of that will be another car dealership that has run out of room.  They have a concept store that will be the first of its kind in Western Canada.

east of those 3

To the East of these 3 parcels are other businesses that we can’t tell you about.  Those companies want to make their own announcements.

east of holiday inn express

This takes us to the Holiday Inn Express.  Right across the street, to the East, will be Prince Albert’s first urban RV campground.  All around the water feature will get naturalized and landscaped.  The RVs that park in there will be enclosed in a natural, treed, parklike setting.  There will be 42 paved camp sites.

north of holiday inn express

The parcel just North of the Holiday Inn Express is sold; they are still deciding what they want to build there.  North of that, on the corner of the main entrance into The Yard, will be a gas station/convenience store/car wash.

east of gas station/convenience store/car wash

Just East of these 2 parcels will be another hotel and a grocery store.  The grocery store will be a new concept store, the first of its kind in Saskatchewan.

north of main entrance

The 4 bay building North of the main entrance already has 2 tenant businesses lined up.

much needed event centre to the east

To the East of that is the city owned land for the proposed Event Centre.  This 4500 seat facility will be able to host trade shows, national conferences, arts and sports competitions, Disney on Ice, Cirque de Soleil shows, and big name concerts and comedians.  It would also be the new home of the Raiders.  The Raiders bring almost $10,000,000 tourism dollars into PA businesses annually.  Prince Albert will become a tourism hub at a new level that was impossible before.  All of these user fees will help beef up city revenues since city revenues are basically comprised of taxes and user fees.

North of proposed event centre

Finally, directly North of the proposed Event Centre is the city owned Aquatic & Arenas Rec Centre is on time to be completed in December of 2024.

improving city revenues and local economy

All told, it’s estimated that all of these new businesses and companies will add $3,000,000 to $4,000,000 dollars of new business taxes to the city.

A lot of activity will be generated in building and construction this year in The Yard.  This means lots of jobs and lots of commerce for our local businesses.

2024 will be a very happy new year for our community and the Northern communities we service!
